The Literary Event of the Century
Every once in a long while there is an event in the world of arts and letters than creates an almost unbearable sense of anticipation. A new novel from Donna Tartt. The next volume of Robert Caro’s LBJ biography (next up: The Lives of Lyndon Johnson Part 5: June-July 1964,, 4,396 pp.) The discovery of a pristine director’s cut of The Magnificent Ambersons. Gabbo. And then sometimes there is a combination of an excellent writer and a subject so monumental that I can say without hyperbole that it’s a million times more important than all of these things put together.
