John Keegan RIP

John Keegan has passed away. His work as a military historian was uneven; The Face of Battle is a truly excellent popular evocation of combat through the ages, but his more scholarly efforts suffered from numerous flaws.  Even Price of Admiralty left something to be desired, and as many have pointed out Keegan’s attitudes on Clausewitz were retrograde at best, ill-informed at worst. Nevertheless, one great work is certainly one more than most of us will have.
