Obviously, it’s a good thing that the particularly appalling language has been excised, but it shouldn’t be forgotten that the “arbitrarily deny poor women access to essential health care” bill is still a really, really bad one. And whether or not the language ends up being included, the attempt to re-define rape based on grotesquely sexist premises provides valuable information about why reactionaries in Congress want to restrict abortion access.
