The key takeaway for the future is that the latest pro-discrimination strategy of making spurious arguments about religious discrimination is that it’s checkers against chess. As New Hampshire shows, it’s pretty easy to counter this by amending legislation to include protections against things the government wasn’t going to do anyway. Hence, victory with “compromises” that compromise nothing but are sometimes framed as compromises in a way that might even appeal to the Fred Hiatt set. Sometimes, having a poor quality of enemy is really helpful….
