Friday Cat Blogging
Herman and Vermin. These cats were the companions of Frances Benjamin Johnson, one of the most important — and forgotten — American photographers of the early 20th century. Johnson photographed Presidents Taft and Roosevelt, and she happened to take some of the last shots of William McKinley before he was assassinated in Buffalo in 1901. Among other things, Johnson carved an important niche for women in photography and organized exhibitions for their work in Russia and elsewhere during her long career, which stretched into the 1950s, when Johnson was in her late 80s. Hermin and Vermin, one assumes, did not enjoy careers of such length or renown.
