By In the cloture vote today, only 3 Dems crossed: Zig-zag Zell and Nelson, definitive “nominal Democrats,” and Robert Byrd. With Byrd, I’m not sure if it’s some obscure constitutional principle or a “you can take the boy out of the Klan etc.” issue. Anyway, that’s it. They couldn’t get anyone else to roll–not Breaux, not Baucus, not Hollings. This amendment smelled like the dumpster outside of Taco Bell during a garbage strike, and non-wingnuts almost uniformly avoided the stench.
Ralph Nader is currently preparing a press release saying that the fact the Democrats provided 3 of the 48 votes prove that the two parties are exactly the same.
