A few stats from John Olerud’s days as a Seattle Mariner:

  1. 2nd highest career OBP in Mariners history, which is no small feat considering he played in Safeco, rather than the Kingdome
  2. 9th highest career slugging percentage in Mariners history, which tells you more about the Ms than it does about Olerud.
  3. 6th highest career OPS, just ahead of Alvin Davis and just behind Bret Boone.
  4. 2nd in games played at first base, behind Alvin Davis.
  5. Mariner’s have their four best seasons with Olerud at first base.  Indeed, excepting this season, all of Olerud’s seasons are better than all of the seasons without Olerud.

Very competitive with Mr. Mariner for the all-time greatest Mariner 1b.  Davis had more time with the Mariners, hitting stats while with the Mariners very similar, but Olerud is regarded as a much better defender.  Now we have Bucky Jacobsen for a while, I’m guessing Raul Ibanez at first by the beginning of next year.

I’ll miss him a bit, even if it was the right thing to do.
