Well this is just great:
A juror who had been selected for Donald J. Trump’s criminal trial in Manhattan was abruptly excused on Thursday, demonstrating the continuing challenge of picking a jury to decide the fate of the polarizing former president.
The woman told the judge overseeing the case that she had developed concerns about her identity becoming public. Although the judge has kept prospective jurors’ names private, some have disclosed their employers and other identifying information in court.
After excusing her, the judge, Juan M. Merchan, instructed reporters to no longer detail where a prospective juror works. “I have the legal authority to do it,” the judge said of blocking the news media from reporting identifying employer information.
Yeah, they “have disclosed their employers and other identifying information in court” because they’re required to do so! But the media aren’t required to report those details to the MAGA mob, unless that’s in the invisible ink part of the First Amendment.
I’m getting increasingly fed up with “unless it’s from the Po region of Italy, it’s just sparkling authoritarianism.”
On a related note, I should have mentioned in my post earlier this morning that there’s a massive tendency toward a kind of denial among liberals and leftists when it comes to what these people really believe. You can see this in statements about how it’s all just racism and sexism and resentment. I mean yes it’s those things, but people who leave $1000 tips for tacos because they’re about to be raptured are displaying what economists call “revealed preference,” which is a fancy name for I really really believe this stuff as opposed to merely saying I do.
And Trump’s base really really believes all of his insane bullshit.
