Many schools in the Denver area will be closed Wednesday as authorities conduct what they’re calling a “massive manhunt” for a young woman they say is “infatuated” with the 1999 shooting at Columbine High School. They say she made threats just days before the 20th anniversary of the attack in the school that left 13 people dead.
Authorities are seeking Sol Pais, 18, who is thought to have made undisclosed threats that prompted Columbine and more than 20 other schools outside Denver to lock their doors for nearly three hours Tuesday afternoon. . ..Pais traveled to Colorado from Miami on Monday night and bought a pump-action shotgun and ammunition, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI. She was last seen in the foothills west of Denver, was considered armed and extremely dangerous and should not be approached, they said.
“This has become a massive manhunt … and every law enforcement agency is participating and helping in this effort,” Dean Phillips, special agent in charge of the FBI in Denver, said late Tuesday night.
Here’s my favorite detail of this little nightmare (the Denver metro area is home to nearly three million people, and practically every school in it closed with no prior warning this morning):
A “BOLO” sent out by Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force says that Pais is “infatuated with Columbine school shooting” and was “attempting to buy firearms.” It also says “NO PC TO ARREST” meaning authorities at the time the BOLO was created did not have enough probable cause to arrest her. The sheet also says, “If contacted detain and evaluate mental health status then contact Det. Gilbert immediately.”
Let’s review:
Mentally unbalanced teenager says something disturbing on social media (this happens literally tens of thousands of times a day in this country).
She then flies halfway across the country, walks into a store, and buys a pump-action shotgun immediately after having indicated that she may be kind of crazy, and is perhaps planning some sort of school massacre like her crazy idols, who she’s probably spent thousands of hours on the internet studying and obsessing over. This is all perfectly legal because of FREEDOM.
So you can’t arrest her! Instead, she’s supposed to be detained for a “mental health check,” before she actually starts her mass shooting activities.
If only there were some way to do that to the United States of America.
