People forget Forget they’re hiding
In wake of Jane Mayer’s extraordinarily damning article, Tom Perez made the obvious — indeed long postmature — decision not to allow Fox News to host its 2020 debates. This has predictably caused some elite journalists to rise to Fox’s honor:
Look, it’s a front. That Fox News employs some competent journalists and that not everything on the network is willful Republican propaganda doesn’t make it a legitimate news organization any more than the Genco Import Ltd. selling good olive oil or the Bada Bing offering lap dances make them legitimate businesses. Fox literally spiked a blockbuster story because the owner wanted Trump to win and knew the story would damage him. When you’re doing for free what David Pecker at least has the dignity to request compensation for, you’re not a legitimate news enterprise. Fox News is, without hyperbole, one of the most important of the anti-democratic elements that allow a Republican Party offering mostly incredibly unpopular ideas can continue to remain electorally competitive.
To the extent that actual journalists remain at Fox News, they’re playing a role in maintaining the pretense that Fox is an actual news organization. If it hurts their feelings to point this out, too bad.
This is an INSANE attitude for journalists to take. Fox is not after "tough" questions or substantive challenges. The explicit purpose of the entire network is to destroy the Democratic Party and liberalism! I feel like the entre journalism establishment is gaslighting *itself*. https://t.co/6YZdpLxStC
